Our Story
Swiss Ceramics was founded in 2008 by master potter Heinrich Steiner in a small workshop in the foothills of the Alps. What began as a one-person studio has grown into a collective of skilled artisans united by a shared passion for clay and craftsmanship.
Our philosophy is simple: create pieces that honour traditional techniques while embracing contemporary design sensibilities. We believe that handmade ceramics carry an energy that mass-produced items simply cannot replicate. The slight irregularities, the fingerprints left in the clay, the unique glaze patterns—these imperfections are what make each piece truly one of a kind.
Today, our atelier serves private collectors, interior designers, restaurants, and architectural firms across Switzerland and beyond. We remain committed to sustainable practices, sourcing our clay locally and using non-toxic glazes that are safe for food contact and the environment.

Our Workshop
Located in a converted mill building on the outskirts of Zurich, our 400-square-metre workshop houses everything we need to create ceramic art from start to finish.
The space includes dedicated areas for clay preparation, wheel throwing, hand-building, glazing, and firing. Our three kilns—ranging from a traditional wood-fired kiln to a modern electric one—allow us to achieve a diverse range of finishes and effects.
We welcome visitors by appointment. Seeing our artisans at work offers insight into the care and skill that goes into every piece.
